Silvan brings production to the UK
Wood flooring company Silvan Floors has moved its production from Germany to the UK after investing £500,000 in a saw mill to keep up with demand.
Silvan was a partner in a saw mill in Germany but it struggled to meet Silvan's orders.
The firm's new 21,000sqft saw mill in Thurlaston, Leicestershire employs 12 people.
Director Richard Brewster, Silvan director says he wants sales to jump from £2m to 310m in the next five years.
'Everybody is saying British manufacturing is dead in the water and we wanted to buck the trend. The workforce is going to grow in the next five years and we are looking at taking on wood machinist apprentices,' he says.
He says he expects moving production to the UK will help generate orders. 'It's been really good to show clients the British can do what the Germans are doing.'
