MCO opens second store as it plans expansion
Discount furniture and homewares retailer Metro Clearance Outlet has opened its second store as it plans expansion across the North-East of England.
MCO has opened in the 42,000sqft former TJ Hughes store in Middlesbrough's Captain Cook centre that closed last August. The move has created 50 jobs – half of which have been filled by former TJ Hughes staff, including manager Chris McMahon.
MCO's first store opened in November 2010, in the former Marks & Spencer Lifestore building.
'It has been successful there and so is starting to spread into the wider North-East with the Middlesbrough branch its second unit,' says McMahon.
Primarily a furniture and homeware store, the Middlesbrough branch will include a stronger focus on fashion with 25% of the floor space dedicated to fashion.
MCO is now looking to expand further across the region with plans for two more units by the end of thee year.
