Clive Race

Clive Race, former Race for Furniture md died on 29 July after a 12 year battle with prostate cancer. He was 89.

His father Oswald set up the furniture store in Middlesbrough in 1920, and Clive joined after WW2 after serving in the RAF as a wireless operator.

A keen MIddlesbrough FC fan, Clive sold furniture to many high profile players.  ‘Juninho bought all sorts from him when he moved into his house,’ said his son Iain, who runs the store and sister branch Home Interiors, now in Stockton.

‘My dad was quite a character. When he met Juninho’s dad Oswaldo, he told him his dad was called Oswald and they struck up a bit of a rapport.’

Clive was a founder member of the Middlesbrough Cleveland Rotary Club and won an award for his charity work.

He is survived by his wife Leah, Iain and daughter Heather.
