A 21 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following the fire that destroyed the 144 year-old House of Reeves furniture store in Croydon on Monday night.

The Metropolitan Police said the suspect was detained on Tuesday night and was being questioned at a south London police station.

There have been no other arrests in connection with the incident so far.

UPDATE: The store was today demolished and the Reeves family repeated that they would continue trading but were unsure if they would rebuild on the site.
