Oka enjoys Chelsea boost

Furniture and accessories chain Oka has shrugged off the state of the economy and enjoyed a strong start to the year.

Sales for the first five months of the year are up 31.5% after a 9.4% increase to almost £15m in 2010. Profits before tax and exceptional items climbed by 24.4% to £472,000 during the year.

Annabel Astor, chief executive and co-founder of the 15 branch chain attributed much of the sales increase on the opening of its flagship store in Chelsea last autumn. ‘We can credit this to the investment in our new flagship store which has been a huge success. As Chelsea has proved, when the location is right trading is hugely successful.’

Oka, which is majority owned by FF&P Private Equity, is due to open a 3,000sqft concession in Selfridges’ Oxford Street, London store before the end of the month.
