Headlam acquires Fell's Carpets
Headlam has further expanded its flooring distribution network with the acquisition of North Yorkshire distributor Fell's Carpets. The group has paid £1.3m for the 98 year-old company, which had sales of £6.7m in the year to 30 April. It was founded by Percy Fell, the great uncle of Fell's Carpets' md Tim Fell making rugs in Castleford.
Headlam has proposed moving operations to its facility at Gildersome, Leeds, subject to staff consultation, whilst preserving the autonomy and identity of Fell's Carpets.
'We are very pleased to welcome Fell's to the group. We will continue to maintain the autonomous identity of the business and provide further investment to enable it to develop its presence across the North of England,' says Tony Brewer, Headlam chief executve.
'Combining the two companies provides an excellent opportunity for Fell's to grow and offer a broader range of products to our customers whilst offering a richer experience to our staff, with the backing and resources of a large group,' says Tim Fell.
The deal is expected to be finalised on 29 November.
