£500,000 UK production move pays dividends
Less than two years since an upmarket wood floor manufacturer invested £500,000 to bring manufacturing back to the UK, it is celebrating winning orders worth £2m.
Silvan Floors, of Thurlaston, Leicestershire, is supplying exclusive hotel and residential developments in London, Europe and the Middle East.
Silvan is providing developer Lend Lease with oak flooring for its 105-apartment complex in Victoria, central London, and builder Robert McAlpine is using Silvan's flooring for Estee Lauder's new London headquarters.
Another development using Silvan's products is a residential scheme in Chelsea, west London.
'That's really where we target, the high-end part of the market. We know we can't compete with the low to middle end because of the competition from Europe from places such as Germany,' says James Illiffee, Silvan director.
Illiffe says the contracts will allow it to create three jobs, lifting its workforce to 14.
