Furniture and flooring sales soar for John Lewis

jlp9Furniture and flooring sales leapt at John Lewis last week, with several sectors seeing increases of more then 20%.

Overall home sales were 19.5% higher in the week to 10 May, with growth in all main sectors. 'The star performer of the week was furniture with big increases from fitted furniture at 87.5%, bed and bedroom at 44%, upholstery at 46.4% and living and dining at 24.7%. Not to be outdone though there were notable uplifts from cooking and dining at 11.5%, textiles and carpets at 13.6% and home accessories and gifts at 9%,' says David Barford

'Our shop sales were buoyant with the best performances from High Wycombe at 51.6% up on last year, Newbury at 31.6%, Poole 23.0%, Croydon 20.7% and Swindon 20.2%.

'Our online operation was up 28.1% on last year, with our click & collect facility soaring ahead and up 60% year on year.'

Overall sales were 15.6% higher for the week and up by 8.8% for the 15 week period.
