Furniture delivers again for John Lewis
John Lewis has continued its run of strong furniture sales, with the department outperforming overall sales growth.
Furniture sales rose by 10.5% in the week to 17 May, compared with overall sales up 6.6%.
'Home's recent momentum continued with a 5.5% gain, driven by some terrific sales from furniture, up 10.5%. It was particularly pleasing for us to capitalise on the Mediterranean climate with outdoor living showing 52% growth on the prior year,' says Ed Connolly, John Lewis electricals and home technology buying director.
'A mixed performance around the branches still saw 14 shops beat their last year's figures, with High Wycombe's numbers particularly strong [up 23.6%]. Online figures were pleasing at 23.5% up, versus last year.'
Sales for the 16 week period are up by 8.6%.
