Home again stars for John Lewis
Home and At Home stores have again proved to be stars for John Lewis, with significant sales increases.
The chain continued its run of interiors sales growth with another double-digit increase in the week to 7 June. Home sales rose by 15.5%. 'It was great to see the home assortments growing so strongly. Upholstery and beds stood out within furniture while textiles and lighting were also popular,' says Simon Russell John Lewis retail operations development director.
'Brisk trade, both in shops and and online, resulted in an impressive 18.2% growth on last year. The weather was in our favour, with occasional rain driving footfall into branches while the sun stimulated strong seasonal performances.
'Online sales grew by 31% helped by strong traffic growth to the website. Shops recorded one of their best increases this year at 13.6%. High Wycombe once again led the way for the full-line department stores with a 43% increase proving the value of its refurbishment with strong results also at Stratford, Glasgow and Cribbs Causeway. However, it was the At Home shops that dominated the top performers with Croydon, Poole and Tamworth all around 40% up.'
Sales for the 19 week period were 9.8% higher and home sales up 6.7%.
