Furniture continues to shine for John Lewis

john-lewis-funitureFurniture delivered 'eye-catching' sales rises at John Lewis last week.

'Home continued its fine run with big-ticket product leading the way and the results from beds, up 20%, fitted furniture, up 59%, and upholstery, up 57%, were particularly eye-catching,' says Barry Matheson,
John Lewis retail services director.
'This season's Copenhagen theme product has been very well received by customers which bodes well for the seasonal trade ahead.
'Our At Home format branches dominate the top of the table and congratulations to Ipswich who led the way [up 25.8%]. High Wycombe continues to be front of the pack among the full-line shops with another cracking score [up 20.3%]. In online the level of trade was softer than of late. However, sales still grew 13% ahead of last year.'
Home sales were 6.6% higher in the week to 20 September, and by 10.2% in the eight week period. Total sales were 2% higher at £74.23m and by 8.1% in the eight week period.
