Home keeps John Lewis positive
Department and home store chain John Lewis recorded another increase in sales last week, driven by home sales.
Sales in the week to 4 October were 7.9% higher at £77.61m, despite the weather continuing to hit clothing sales.
'Home sales had the best growth in the week, up 9.1%, big-ticket items in particular showing some real momentum, demonstrated by a stand-out figure in furniture.
This was complemented by our customers investing in preparing the home in other ways; made-to-measure curtains, for example, were strong, along with furnishing fabrics showing positive growth', says Ed Connolly John Lewis fashion buying director.
Overall store sales were up 3.6% and online sales 19.6% higher. Sales for the 10 week period were 8.8% higher.
