Beds and flooring drive John Lewis to double-digit rise
John Lewis enjoyed yet another strong week of interiors sales, driven by beds and flooring as the sector easily outstripped others.
The department and home store chain's run of homewares sales growth continued as sales rose by 11.8% in the week to 18 October. 'The home directorate enjoyed another strong week, with an increase on last year of 11.8%. Furniture was once again the powerhouse, with beds continuing its general upwards trend and scoring a sales increase of over 40%, and floorcoverings also on fine form,' says Maggie Porteous, John Lewis director of selling, north and new format.
Homeware sales are up 10.9% for the 12 week period.
'The week produced a mixed picture for trade, with the overall outcome a sales increase on last year of 6.3%. Although the continuing unseasonable warm weather had an impact, online sales were strong at 25.9% up on last year, with Click & Collect continuing to power ahead,' Porteous adds.
