Online helps home to star for John Lewis
John Lewis has seen double digit online home sales, with strong performances from beds and bedroom.
‘Online sales were 17% up on last year with good increases across all directorates. Home sales were 12% up with beds and bedroom driving the largest increase on the year,’ says Jon Williams, John Lewis merchandising operations director.
Home sales instore in the week to 9 May were up 0.4%, helped by a 5% rise in carpets and textiles.
‘A week of two halves, with a buoyant start to the week supported by in-store bank holiday events pulling customers into branches combined with strong online sales demand. The seasonal weather continued to drive summer product including outdoor living. The second half of the week saw less settled weather and the small matter of an election, both of which slowed footfall and sales leaving us to finish the week a respectable 1.1% up on last year,’ says Williams.
Home sales for the 14 week period are up 4%.
