Beds and bedroom leads home push for John Lewis
Beds and bedroom furniture enjoyed a double-digit sales increase last week as home sales rose.
‘We had a strong start to the week while the skies were grey. Sales then dipped on Saturday as the sun came out for most of us and footfall dropped off. This was against a strong Saturday last year, owing to wet weather,’ says Christine Kasoulis
John Lewis home buying director.
‘Home stepped forward positively with sales up 3.7% on last year. Furniture was the strongest of the buying groups at 9% up, driven by a great response to promotional activity in beds and bedroom furniture which finished the week up 16%. Home accessories and gifts had a very good week on the back of the continued success of outdoor living and lighting. Utility Shop also deserves a special mention with a very strong performance in home storage.’
‘With promotional offers across the directorates continuing into this weekend, the weather looking promising for driving footfall into branches, and pay days coming around, we have plenty of reasons to be positive about the week ahead.’
Home sales for the 16 week period to 23 May are up 4%.
