Welle goes it alone with DHD

welleBedroom furniture manufacturer Welle has opened its own UK distribution centre taking over delivery and installation from retailers.

Orders are delivered to its 27,000sqft unit in Milton Keynes and stored in cages to minimise the risk of damage. Fitters deliver to the consumer's home and assemble the products in their room of choice. Any service issues are completely handled by Welle, with no further cost to the retailer.

The company previously used one of its major customer's delivery partner but says the move will improve service and by taking installation out of the hands of retailers could lift sales.

'We had sufficient volume to start a logistic business here, and the directors at Welle had the foresight to allow us to take the next step. The investment in monetary terms is large, but in terms of commitment and manpower it has been massive, says Matthew Kutas, Welle UK agent.

'There are retailers who are experts in handling furniture like ours, but there are many more that are not, and have possibly avoided selling it. We are making it as painless as possible for them.'
