Amazon to launch handmade furniture website to take on Etsy
Amazon is now looking to expand its market with handcrafted goods by launching a similar themed site to Etsy, entitled Handmade at Amazon.
The new marketplace will offer handmade items ranging from furniture to home décor. The company states the new online marketplace will solely be for ‘factory-free’ and ‘genuinely handmade items’, The company is applying strict criteria at this stage to who qualifies to sell on Handmade at Amazon.
Peter Faricy, vice president for Amazon Marketplace, told City AM: "(We have) designed a custom shopping experience for customers looking for handmade items by bringing together many of the best artisans in the world.”
The imminent launch of Handmade at Amazon arrives following the unsuccessful recent flotation of Etsy, with the company’s share price currently trading below its IPO price of $16 at $14.
