Sterling sees profits double as sales top £50m
Sterling Furniture has seen pre-tax profits more than double as sales climbed above £50m.
The nine store group saw pre-tax profits rise from £800,000 to £2m in the year to 28 February. Sales rose 12% to £50.1m.
Gordon Mearns, Sterling Furniture md said the company had produced a good result in a difficult market, and had benefitted from its long-running marketing strategy.
The strategy involves providing everything to furnish and finish a home.
‘A mixture of cautious consumer sentiment and still relatively low levels of housing market activity have an impact on retail sales. Rather than simply supplying pieces of furniture the group helps customers coordinate a room providing both the inspiration and the overall products and services to support the main furniture,’ he said in the company’s accounts.
In summer it invested £500,000 in a revamped cafe at the store.
The 208-seat Mill Cafe offers a family dining area with a play space and interactive areas for children.
