London to say hello to Barcelona
BD Barcelona is to become the latest overseas furniture manufacturer to open a UK showroom.
Best known for artisanal furniture designed by leading artists, architects and designers such as Salvador Dali, Doshi Levien, Konstantin Grcic and Antonio Gaudi among others, this will be the first introduction to the UK market for the Spanish furniture producer.
It will open a showroom on 12 – 14 Berry Street, Clerkenwell, London on 24 May.
As part of the showroom launch, it will preview a new Dali chair, Invisible Personage, which featured in Dali’s 1935 painting Singularities, created by co-founder, Oscar Tusquets Blanca . A selection of other pieces including furniture from designers including the Campana Brothers, Färg & Blanche and Cristian Zuzunaga will also be previewed for the first time in the UK.
Since 1972 BD Barcelona has been editing Gaudí’s furniture for his famous buildings and introduced an exclusive first collection of furniture and lamps designed by Dalí: it holds the exclusive license to remake his pieces.
The company’s relationship with Dalí dates back to the late 1960s, when Tusquets Blanca began a long friendship with the artist and the tradition of producing the furniture depicted by Dali in his paintings.
