Bedroom drives John Lewis

JLSleighJohn Lewis enjoyed a healthy increase in furniture sales last week, boosted by a major increase in beds and bedroom sales.

The chain saw furniture sales rise by 7.1%, with beds and bedroom sales up by 19.9% in the week to 18 June.
‘Total sales this week were £79.2m, up 4.2% on last year. Father's Day gave sales a boost this week, but the wet weather had the reverse effect on some product areas.
Fashion sales were up 2.0% on last year, with the spate of wet weather meaning sales of our high summer lines struggled. However, in response to this, umbrellas were up 239% on last year. Home had a steady week, up 3.7% on last year. Home accessories and gifts were 7% up on last year with Father's Day gifts and pop-up areas in shops providing a positive uplift,’ says Ed Connolly, John Lewis fashion director.
Home sales were up by 5.1% in the 20 week period.
