Tendence opts to go early
The Tendence trade show is to be moved almost two months earlier from next year, while new sections will be added.
The Frankfurt show normally takes place towards the end of August, this year is 27-30 August, but from next year it will move to late June, with organisers repositioning it as the first international buying show of the second half of the year.
The 2017 show will run from 24-27 June, 30 June – 3 July in 2018 and 29 June – 2 July in 2019.
‘The new concept has three main components. Firstly, it is essential to take advantage of existing growth opportunities for one of Messe Frankfurt’s longest-running events. This will be achieved by rounding off the fair with new product segments at the same time as expanding existing ones. Secondly, permanently bringing the dates of the event forward to the end of June/beginning of July, ie before all existing order fairs, will effectively strengthen the new-products character of Tendence,’ says Philipp Ferger, Tendence group show director.
‘Thus buyers wanting to be the first to see and order genuine new products for the busy winter and Christmas season will come to Frankfurt. And the dates of the order fairs aimed at the retail trade show clearly that holding the fair at the end of June/beginning of July will work for this target group as well as international buyers.
‘Thirdly, Tendence should once again become the meeting place for the international bulk-buying trade, which comes to Frankfurt to put together its assortments for the spring and summer season for the following year. This conceptual aspect also requires the fair to be moved forward to the early summer.’
Further details about the planned repositioning and initial reactions from the sector will be revealed during August’s show. Pictured is House Doctor at the 2015 show.
