Hashish design debut sees Hypnos reveal The Sand

HypnosAmiraHashishHypnos has unveiled the first in a series of beds from its new collaboration with interiors journalist and designer Amira Hashish at Decorex.

The Sand uses Ikat and tribal influences to draw on the glamour and mystery of the desert and features a tall statement headboard, Hypnos divan and Pretty Peg feet. The Sand headboard fabric is unique to the collection and has been screenprinted by hand using metallic gold inks at Insley & Nash’s studio.
‘When Hypnos approached me to design a boutique bed collection I knew we had an exciting project on our hands. Our vision was to combine Hypnos’ 100 years of craftsmanship and British heritage with contemporary looks and fabric printing techniques. This project is a celebration of traditional furniture making skills, paired with the technology that enables us to create striking beds in a new way for a design conscious customer. It was incredibly important to me to achieve this by working with fresh talent from the fabric world so we approached London-based Insley & Nash, whose previous work has been fashion focused, and digital fabric producer Flock which represents young textile maker Angela Jane Johnston’, says Hashish.
‘We created the patterns from scratch, where I drew on my own inspiration as well as trends which I believe will stand the test of time. Each bed in the collection has its own distinct personality to correspond with three very different aesthetics. From a sumptuous Marylebone apartment to a Mediterranean villa or a Scandinavian retreat, I wanted to design a series of beds which would be the centre piece of the room, bringing style and comfort together for modern living.’
‘We wanted to look at how we could combine our traditional skills with a new generation of British designers and fabric makers. Working with Hashish has been the perfect partnership to bring this concept to life. With her passion and flair for contemporary design we have created a collection that is bold, innovative and with a strong focus on interiors trends which are set to become modern classics,’ says Chris Ward, Hypnos group marketing director.
The collection is the design debut for Hashish, who is the digital features editor and weekly Homes & Property columnist at the Evening Standard. She is also the design writer for the Independent.
