Furniture 1: Weather 0 at John Lewis
John Lewis has continued its run of strong furniture sales, despite the unseasonal weather.
‘In a week [to 17 September] which saw unseasonably hot weather, John Lewis sales were steady at £79.4m, +0.9% on last year,’ says Christine Kasoulis, John Lewis home buying director.
‘Home had sales of plus 0.7% on the year with “big ticket” items performing well, with furniture up 13%. We are also seeing our new Autumn/Winter ranges hit the mark with customers and upholstery was up 21% year-on-year as shoppers spruced up their homes for the new season.’
In contrast clothing sales were down 8%, while electricals and home technology was up 9.9%, helped by the launch of the latest iPhone.
Home sales for the seven week period were up 0.9%.
