Furniture scores again for John Lewis

JLCroftHome was the star performer for John Lewis last week, defying the warm weather while other sectors suffered.

Home managed a 2.1% increase, with furniture almost repeating the double-digit increase seen the week before.
‘As the unseasonably warm weather continued, John Lewis sales totalled £81.9m, a decline of 4.7% compared to a strong week last year. Home was the strongest category last week with sales up 2.1% year-on-year,’ says Maggie Porteous, John Lewis shop trade director.
‘The earlier opening of our Christmas Shop in John Lewis Oxford Street helped overall sales for Christmas products increase by 28% compared to last year. Furniture also had a good week up 9.4% and customers continued to shop our new Autumn/Winter ranges.’
In contrast electricals and home technology dropped by 5.5% in the week to 24 September and clothing sales fell by 9.1%.
Home sales for the eight week period were up by 1.1%.
