M&S looks to the future
Marks & Spencer has created a new senior management role to look at the future.
The chain has appointed Melanie Smith as director of strategy. Smith, who most recently worked at consumer goods investment boutique Smith Hebert, will join at the end of May.
‘It’s a new role designed to look forward and develop future growth opportunities as we continue to recover the business,’ said the chain.
Smith has previously worked at Bupa, where she was global marketing and strategy director, Talk Talk where she was responsible for the integration of Tiscali, and consultants McKinsey where she gained experience in grocery operations.
She will become part of the chain’s operating committee.
