Outdoor and bed linen drive John Lewis home growth
John Lewis saw home sales return to growth in the past week.
Outdoor products and bed linen helped John Lewis list home sales by 8.1% in the week to 1 July.
‘Total sales for the week, which was our first full week of summer Clearance, were £98.7m, up 8.8%,’ said Barry Matheson, John Lewis head of shop trade Scotland and north.
‘Home also had a good week with sales up 8.1%. Outdoor living performed particularly well, with sales up 38.4%, as the good weather continues to see people spend more time outdoors. Decor bed linen also saw a rise in sales, up 12.8%.
‘Fashion this week saw an increase of 7% as the warm weather continues to boost sales. Our Loved and Found range performed strongly, up 46.3%. Beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales were up 12.5% driven by strong sales across both beauty and sport ranges, which were up 12.8% and 18.6% respectively.
‘Electrical and home technology had a really strong week, with sales up 12.4% year on year. As customers took advantage of clearance prices, sales of Apple products rose 34% overall, with Apple Watch sales increasing by 115%.’
Home sales for the 22 week period were down 1.1%.
