Union launches Brintons campaign
The trade union representing many Brintons employees in Kidderminster has launched a campaign for government action to help maintain the firm's presence in the town.
Community has launched a petition calling for the Government 'to bring together all stakeholders in the Kidderminster and wider UK carpet industry to discuss how to continue and grow UK carpet manufacturing.'
The move follows Brintons' plan to make more than 100 employees redundant, with the majority expected to go at its Kidderminster operations.
'This will have a devastating effect on the local community and all surrounding businesses. This is the latest blow to UK carpet manufacturing,' says the petition.
'Kidderminster carpet workers have an international reputation for excellence. They are highly skilled, loyal and proud of the carpet they produce. We the undersigned believe UK carpet manufacturing can have a future with the right vision and investment.'
'Manufacturing can thrive in this country. Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Toyota have all demonstrated that with the right investment British workers can deliver the best products in the world. We call upon the Government to demonstrate their support for Brintons by giving every possible assistance to the Kidderminster workers in their fight to keep carpet manufacturing in the town,' says Gavin Miller, Community regional campaign manager.
