John Lewis halts home sales decline
After eight weeks of falling home sales, John Lewis saw the sector return to growth in the past week.
Home sales rose by 0.4% in the week to 2 December. Sales for the 18 week period are down 1.7%. No further information was given.
‘Total sales for the week were £177.9m, up 3.4% on the same week last year. Electricals and home technology sales were up 7.1%, driven by high demand in gaming and wearable technology. Mobile sales were also up as demand for iPhone X and iPhone 8 continues,’ said Mark Felix, John Lewis online trade director.
‘Fashion sales were up 1.7% with Beauty, Wellbeing and Leisure up 5% and womenswear up 4.6% on last year. As colder weather sets in, John Lewis womenswear cashmere had record sales, up 24%.’
