‘Beyond excited’: Smith recruits Coggan and team for DMM

DMM ceo Mark Smith has described the recruitment of Scott Coggan and his design team following the collapse of Fabb Sofas as a chance to take the parent company of Ashley Manor, AMX and Alexander & James to ‘the next level of commercial creativity’.

DMM has significantly strengthened its design team with the recruitment of Scott Coggan, appointed as design director, and incorporating his design team with the upholstery manufacturer.

‘I am beyond excited about this creative partnership. I have admired Scott throughout our joint climb up the furniture design ladder and feel completely enthused about the chance to combine our ideas and take Ashley Manor to the next level of commercial creativity,’ said Smith.

Coggan began his career at Christie-Tyler before becoming design director at Buoyant Upholstery aged 26 and seeing production move from 29 sofas a week in 1999 to 3,000 in 2005. He has also worked at DFS and Fabb Sofas.

‘He is respected and loved throughout the industry and his calm and thoughtful work ethic means any team he works amongst feels valued and respected and part of the story,’ said Smith.

‘My passion for the sector is unwavering, I can see plenty of opportunities in this current economic climate to wow customers with unbelievable added value detail, a fresh and modern flamboyance and newness. Excited for the next chapter,’ said Coggan.

The move will see DMM double its design capability.
