Councillors green light Ikea store
A proposed Ikea store in Sussex has passed its first planning hurdle.
Councillors on Adur District Council's planning committee voted to approve the application last night, a year and a half after the proposals were first announced.
The proposal will see the store and 600 houses built on the New Monks Farm site between Lancing and Shoreham by Seat, West Sussex. Councillors voted 5-3 to approve the plans.
The development also includes the provision of a new roundabout on the A27, a country park, land for a school and an enlarged travellers’ site.
Objectors had complained about increased traffic the store and the new homes would create, building on a flood plain and loss of provision for pedestrians and horse riders.
The nearby Lancing College withdrew its objection after it reached an agreement with developer New Monks Farm Development, a subsidiary of Brighton and Hove Albion FC, on creating a new access road.
