FMC highlights welfare support
The Furniture Makers’ Company has launched a campaign, One Step at a Time, challenging companies in the furnishing sector to raise awareness of the charity’s welfare support.
The campaign will ask companies to sign up as One Step Champions and commit to communicating the charity’s welfare provision among their employees. The Furniture Makers’ Company has been supporting industry workers, past and present, since 1903. Today it continues to provide financial assistance to workers within the industry through grants that can go towards essential household items or bills, funeral expenses, property repairs, disabled and medical equipment, respite or convalescent breaks, general financial hardship or pre-tenancy costs and removal costs.
‘One Step at a Time isn’t about reinventing the wheel: it’s about reminding individuals and businesses that for more than a century The Furniture Makers’ Company has cared for the people who work and who have worked in the industry. I hope that, the campaign will gather momentum, year on year so that everyone in the industry will know about our welfare support, which is there for anything life throws at you, from a minor bump in the road to a major crisis,’ says Dids Macdonald, FMC master who has made the initiative her Masters’ Challenge for hr year in office.
‘The hard fact of the matter is that the majority of people in the industry don’t even know our help exists. We want to help every single eligible family, but we need your help to make sure our welfare support is no longer the best kept secret in the industry.’
On signing up, One Step Champions will be given a suite of tools to help promote the message, including a certificate of involvement, posters, flyers, case studies and social media content, and be kept up-to-date with news on how The Furniture Makers’ Company can support their employees.
