Home lifts John Lewis
Growth in many areas of homewares helped John Lewis push weekly sales up 6.7%.
'A strong performance in summer clearance helped the home directorate to an increase of 2.3%, powered by outdoor furniture, cookshop, beds and home collections. Reduced to clear was the star ticket, 38% up on last year,' says Ed Connolly, John Lewis electricals and home technology buying director.
'Encouraging full price sales supported this, principally from House and Value ranges which are important indicators of trade for Back to College which directly follows Clearance.'
The rise saw sales rise by 6.7% to £80.74m in the week to 29 June. Sales for the 22 week period are up 7.8%.
